Kelly Jazvac

Kelly Jazvac’s works aspire to be mass-produced luxury consumer goods, and accordingly, they share a slick and glossy aesthetic. However, they are also handmade with materials that are accessible, yet unconventional. The result is a unique strangeness that elicits questions about consumption and creation, needs and desires, surface and quality, and above all, value. These objects, like any consumer product, have the ability to both delight and disappoint, depending, of course, on one’s expectations. Jazvac creates a space for those expectations to be confronted and perhaps, reformulated.
Toronto-based Kelly Jazvac received her BA from the University of Guelph in 2003 and her MFA from the University of Victoria in 2006. She has exhibited extensively in Canada, in shows including: STICKY at YYZ in Toronto,The Constant Search for a Better Way at Simon Fraser University Gallery in British Columbia and Dream Home, at Plug-In ICA, in Winnipeg, MB. She recently completed the Space Studios residency in London, England.
